Hello! It’s Taco Tuesday! Did you know that every Tuesday deserves a sprinkle of joy? This week, I’m serving up some delightful stories and insights.
For today’s task…
📌 Try something new: make a taco with an unusual ingredient
When you try something different - especially in the kitchen - it boosts your confidence as you realize you can create something unique and delicious. It can trigger curiosity about different ingredients, cooking techniques, or food cultures, expanding your knowledge and culinary skills.
Now, let’s start with the day…
Mae Suzuki: The Woman Who Dared to Ditch Diets and Embrace Her Dream Life
Alright, let me tell you about Mae Suzuki and how she ditched restrictive dieting and dropped 40 pounds by doing the exact opposite of what most of us are taught!
For years, Mae was caught in this vicious cycle of extreme diets, endless food guilt, and binge-eating that left her completely drained and, let’s be honest - miserable. Like, who hasn’t been there, right? You try to force yourself to eat foods you hate or work out like a maniac, but all you want is to enjoy a pizza night or take a break.
And what happens next? Boom, you’re back to square one. Mae knew something had to change, so she decided to do something radical.
Instead of focusing on dieting, Mae turned to visualization - yes, the same technique athletes like Michael Phelps and entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs swear by. Mae sat herself down and imagined her dream self, but not in some fluffy, vague way.
She asked herself: Who do I want to become? She didn’t want to become a different person, just the best version of herself. She visualized her future self - someone who felt strong, confident, and healthy - and then, slowly, started living as that person. Sounds too good to be true?
Here’s where it gets wild - she lost 40 pounds in six months!
How? She stopped obsessing over weight loss and began focusing on what actually brought her joy. And that’s when everything shifted. Gone were the days of miserable workouts she hated. Instead, she watched how people who genuinely enjoy staying healthy lived their lives - how they moved, what they ate, how they just… existed without stressing about it all.
She stopped eating food she couldn’t stand just to “burn more calories” and started having fun with her choices. She realized people who are fit don’t wake up thinking, “How many calories can I burn today?” They just enjoy moving their bodies. Mind-blown, right? And the biggest part? She let go of the idea that food was the enemy.
Growing up, she had this “eat everything now or you’ll be hungry later” mentality, which many of us relate to. But Mae realized that food isn’t going anywhere. She could eat until she was full and save the rest. It took away that urge to overeat, knowing there’s no scarcity of food in her life anymore.
She didn’t count every single calorie religiously. Instead, she focused on eating until she was satisfied - and yeah, she tracked to make sure she was in a deficit, but nothing crazy.
"I don’t need to eat five bowls of salad every day. I eat what I enjoy, feel full, and move on with my day,” she said. And the best part? She actually enjoyed working out!
Mae found strength training, hit the gym a few times a week, and loved it - no more forcing herself to do endless cardio just to lose weight. When she didn’t feel motivated, she leaned into the workouts she liked, like squats. She wasn’t perfect, but she kept showing up and living as her future self, one day at a time.
Mae’s transformation wasn’t about crash diets, calorie obsession, or punishing workouts - it was about becoming the version of herself she’d always wanted to be in a way that actually made her happy.
So, that’s it for today. Let’s meet again tomorrow 👋 Till then, stay safe!
