US Election Result is Out Early!!
Hey everyone! Welcome back to TodaysWorld. We’re clocking out early today - why? Duh, it’s Friday!! So, let’s get into the stories…
But before we get started, let’s give you a task for the weekend:
📌 Spend some time volunteering or helping out a local community organization
It could be something simple, like assisting at a food bank, participating in a community cleanup, or offering your skills pro bono to a nonprofit. Volunteering often puts you in touch with people from different backgrounds, potentially leading to new connections and opportunities in your field of interest.
Most importantly, your efforts can make a tangible difference in the community, helping those in need and contributing to meaningful change.
Now, let’s get started…
Kamala Harris is All Set to Win! - Seriously?
So, Dr. Allan Lichtman, the American University professor who's made quite a name for himself by accurately predicting nine out of the last ten U.S. presidential elections, has just weighed in on the 2024 race.
In a recent video shared by the New York Times, Lichtman’s forecast is that Vice President Kamala Harris will take the win against former President Donald Trump come November 5th, keeping the White House firmly in Democratic hands.
Lichtman’s been a bit of a celebrity every four years with his “Keys to the White House” model. This model relies on 13 criteria to gauge each candidate's chances, and according to him, Harris has the upper hand in eight of these areas, while Trump only has three. He’s really pushing the point that while his model shows Harris in a strong position, the real clincher will be voter turnout.
But “the outcome is up to you, so get out and vote,” he stresses.
Lichtman’s model considers various factors like whether the sitting president’s party gained seats in the House during midterms or if there’s a significant third-party candidate in the race. According to him, Harris has advantages in areas like economic conditions and party dynamics, while Trump has challenges with things like charisma and party scandals.
Interestingly, Lichtman also mentions that even if some keys, like foreign policy, were to flip, Trump would still be at a disadvantage because Harris would still lead in enough categories to secure the win.
BTW, Concealer is so Yesterday!
On TikTok, there's a new beauty trend that's all about ditching concealer and embracing dark circles. While self-acceptance is great, the idea that you shouldn’t use makeup to brighten tired eyes is a bit oversimplified. I mean, suggesting that wearing makeup means you lack self-esteem is pretty reductive.
The days of heavy, cakey concealers are definitely behind us, and I’m all for it. I love seeing natural skin and people feeling good about it. But it’s perfectly okay to want to brighten those tired eyes without it meaning anything more about you. It’s not about hiding who you are but rather about enhancing your natural look in a subtle way.
Luckily, there are products now that gently brighten without completely masking your skin. So, if you want to add a bit of light to those under-eye shadows, you can do so with products that provide a soft, natural glow rather than a full-on cover-up.

If you're the type of traveler who wants to make a positive impact while exploring new places, you might be interested in the Guardian of the Reef website. It’s designed for folks who want to support local businesses and help with conservation efforts during their trip to the Great Barrier Reef.
Teamed up with Expedia, Guardian of the Reef offers cool perks like discounts on eco-friendly hotels and exclusive experiences you won’t find anywhere else. It's perfect for those of us who want to do more than just the usual tourist stuff and are keen on making a difference.
On the site, you can book everything from snorkeling and whale-watching tours with certified eco-guides to participating in conservation activities like seagrass restoration or coral planting. While it won’t handle your flights or carbon offsets, it’s a great tool to find and book meaningful experiences.
Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is a huge draw for tourists, and it’s vital for the economy, but it’s also facing serious threats from climate change. Guardian of the Reef aims to strike a balance by encouraging travelers to see the reef firsthand and become invested in its conservation.
Scientists turn mice invisible using food dye
Imagine a world where invisibility isn’t just science fiction but a reality. In H.G. Wells’ 1897 classic, The Invisible Man, the protagonist invents a serum that makes him invisible by manipulating light. Fast forward over a century, and we’re seeing something pretty close to that sci-fi dream come true, but with a fascinating twist.
In a recent breakthrough published in Science, researchers have discovered that a simple yellow food coloring can make mouse skin temporarily transparent. That’s right—by using a common dye called tartrazine, scientists can actually see inside the mouse’s body. It’s like something out of a sci-fi movie, but it's happening right here in the lab!
Here’s how it works: When tartrazine is mixed with water, it changes the way light interacts with the skin. Normally, light scatters around the skin, making it opaque. But the dye adjusts the refractive index of the tissue, which is basically how the tissue bends light, making it more transparent. Think of it like how fog can obscure your view, but instead, the dye clears it up.
The process is pretty straightforward. Researchers applied the dye mixture to the skin of live mice, removing their fur first. As the dye spreads, the skin becomes see-through, revealing the organs and blood vessels underneath. The cool part? They didn’t need to cut into the mice or cause any harm. Just a bit of dye and water did the trick.
With this new technique, scientists were able to observe blood vessels in the brain through the mouse’s skull and watch how organs functioned in real time. They even tested it on chicken breasts before moving on to live animals.
If this method proves successful in humans, it could revolutionize medical imaging and procedures. Imagine being able to see veins more clearly for blood draws or gaining new insights into internal organs without invasive surgery. The future of medical science just got a little clearer, thanks to a splash of food coloring!
