Trump WON. What will happen to you now?
Hey guys,
I know the election didn’t turn out how a lot of people expected and that’s why there are a lot of mixed emotions floating around.
Keeping all that aside, I’m here to talk about what Trump’s re-election means for us, what’s in store for the next four years, and how it could impact different aspects of our lives.
He’s built a unique blend of policies that mix traditional conservative ideas with populist twists, especially when it comes to trade and America’s international role. So, let’s take a deep look:
Immigration
Trump’s vision is to take his “Build the Wall!” slogan from 2016 even further with what he calls “the largest mass deportation program in history.” He’s proposing using the National Guard and domestic police to carry this out. But there’s a lot he hasn’t shared about how this will work in reality.
In fact, we’re left with big questions, like
📌 How will this program impact our neighborhoods?
He’s also suggested ending birthright citizenship and instituting an “ideological screening” for immigrants, along with reintroducing policies like “Remain in Mexico.” So it’s safe to say we can expect a much stricter stance on immigration, both legal and illegal, moving forward.
Abortion Rights
When it comes to abortion, Trump’s sticking to what he’s said before – no national ban, but there’s a catch. He’s all about leaving the decision to the states, which, let’s be real, is a nod to his role in overturning Roe v. Wade. So, for those of us who are possessive about reproductive rights, the real fight is going to play out at the state level.
But here’s where it gets interesting: the GOP platform is still leaving the door open for a potential national ban, using the 14th Amendment’s due process rights for fetuses as the argument. This could very well push the debate back to the federal courts, even if Trump himself doesn’t take any direct action.
Now, we just have to watch if the GOP wins the House.
Taxes
Alright, let’s talk taxes – because Trump’s plans are definitely going to shake things up. He’s all about extending those 2017 tax cuts, which, let’s be honest, mostly helped out corporations and the wealthy. On top of that, he wants to lower the corporate tax rate to 15%, which sounds like a win for big businesses.
But he’s also looking to roll back some of Biden’s tax hikes on high earners and get rid of incentives for green energy.
Now, don’t get me wrong – Trump’s throwing in a bone for the middle class too, like exempting tips and overtime pay from taxes. On paper, that sounds pretty good. But it could open up a few loopholes that richer folks might take advantage of.
Education
When it comes to education, Trump’s got a pretty interesting plan. He wants to shrink the role of the federal government – especially the Department of Education. But here's the catch: he still wants to use federal funding to call the shots. Schools that teach Critical Race Theory or what he dubs “gender ideology” could see funding pulled. He’s also tossing around the idea of a national online academy that he says will be free from “wokeness” and politics.
Essentially, we’re talking about a shift towards more “patriotic” education. This could really shake things up in both public schools and universities.
Social Security, Medicare, and Healthcare
So, Trump says he won’t touch Social Security and Medicare, but here’s the thing – the tax cuts he’s pushing, especially the ones that impact wage-based income, might actually put these programs at risk. If payroll taxes are slashed, there’s a real question about how he plans to fund Social Security and Medicare in the long run. Oh, and just like last time, he’s still all about repealing the Affordable Care Act, but he’s not exactly offering a solid replacement. So, for millions of people, healthcare feels like it’s being left in limbo.
So, here’s the bottom line: Trump’s next term is definitely going to shake things up. Whether we’re on board with his plans or not, there’s no denying that the changes coming our way are going to affect pretty much every part of American life – for better or for worse. It’s going to be a wild ride, so get ready, because we’re heading into some pretty unpredictable political waters.
That’s it for now! See you soon 👋
