Hey,
It’s finally Friday, and while we usually treat this space as our pre-weekend party zone, today’s mood is slightly more sobering.
Because Mother Nature just reminded us who’s in charge…
📌 7.5 magnitude earthquake shakes Southern Argentina
On Friday, May 2, at just before 1 PM UTC (or 9 AM local time), a massive 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck the Drake Passage, a remote region about 136 miles south of Ushuaia, Argentina’s southernmost city.
The quake occurred at a shallow depth of just 6.2 miles, which increases its potential impact.
And the tremors didn’t stop there.
Within minutes, the US Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami alert for coastal regions within 186 miles of the epicenter, putting parts of southern Argentina and Chile on high alert for hazardous waves.
In Puerto Williams, a Chilean port town sitting precariously close to the epicenter, tsunami sirens blared as the clock ticked toward 18:55 UTC, the expected arrival time of the waves.
Social media quickly flooded with videos of people evacuating to higher ground, abandoning their homes and businesses in haste.
Chile’s National Disaster Prevention and Response Service didn’t take any chances. A full-scale evacuation of the southern coast was ordered, as experts warned that the first wave may not be the biggest and that timing could vary by location.
📌 What makes the Drake Passage so dangerous?
The Drake Passage isn’t just famous for its rough seas.
It sits between South America’s Cape Horn and Antarctica’s South Shetland Islands, where the Nazca, Antarctic, and South American tectonic plates meet, making it a ticking time bomb for seismic activity.
And unlike urban centers, this region’s remoteness makes real-time updates and emergency responses slower and riskier.
📌 BTW, we have got to know Tom Cruise’s secret diet
Tom Cruise is back with the eighth and possibly final ‘Mission: Impossible’ film, and he just dropped a delicious detail: his secret to surviving death-defying stunts? A massive breakfast.
“I’ll eat sausage, nearly a dozen eggs, bacon, toast, coffee… fluids, oh, I’m eating,” Cruise told People, ahead of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’s May 23 release.
Why the need for such a calorie-heavy start?
Because in one insane scene, Cruise is wing-walking mid-air at over 120 mph above South Africa’s Drakensberg mountains. No green screens. No stunt doubles. Just Tom, the sky, and a metal wing.
Director Christopher McQuarrie called him “a one-man film crew,” while stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood swears every shot was 100% real.
Cruise even showed his mom the clip after filming. Her response? “Oh honey, I’m glad you didn’t fill me in beforehand.”
📌 And, Tom Cruise is officially dating…
Well, well, well, looks like the rumors were true. Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas have confirmed their romance by literally flying into London together, just days before her birthday.
And of course, Cruise being Cruise, he piloted the helicopter himself. Talk about making an entrance.
In exclusive photos, the duo looked relaxed and all smiles, with Ana dressed down in shorts and sneakers, cradling her dog Elvis.
Cruise, ever the action hero, landed the chopper in a tight tee and jeans, looking every bit the Hollywood icon.
This pairing’s been brewing since Valentine’s Day, but now it's clear they're more than just co-stars-in-discussion. Word is, Penélope Cruz who is Tom’s ex and Ana’s friend has even given her blessing.
Insiders say Ana feels safe with Cruise, something that matters to her deeply after past encounters with stalkers in L.A. She’s since retreated to Vermont for peace, but is happy to travel with Cruise, knowing she’s well protected.
📌 Also, there’s a thing called Met Gala curse
The first Monday of May is almost here, and you know what that means, it's Met Gala time! While we lounge in sweats and scroll through A-lister looks (hi, Rihanna!), celebs are busy walking the most fashionable red carpet of the year.
But amidst all the glitz and glam, there’s a running theory fans can’t ignore: the Met Gala Curse.
Yep, apparently, when celeb couples debut on the Met steps, they risk a breakup shortly after. Dramatic? Maybe. Coincidental? Possibly. But the receipts are...stacked.
Gigi and Zayn (2016), Kylie and Travis (2018), and even Kim K and Pete Davidson (2022). Some even met at the Met. Remember Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston’s whirlwind post-Gala romance?
It’s got fans wondering if the curse is real, or if the Met just happens to be a spotlight that intensifies the cracks.
Either way, with 2025's theme ready to unfold and eyes on possible couple debuts (Kylie and Timmy, we’re looking at you), we’re all bracing for fashion... and fallout.
