Hey you,
Welcome to your Thursday dose where we serve up the wildest, weirdest, and most wonderful stories the world has to offer.
Today, we’re talking about why American sperm is now more expensive than caviar. Yes, you read that right. Your DNA could be a luxury item, and yet, donors are barely getting paid. Capitalism strikes again!
So grab your overpriced coffee, settle in, and let’s get into it!
📌 Why is sperm now more expensive than caviar?
Sperm isn’t just about biology anymore: it’s big business.
With demand skyrocketing and supply tightening, American sperm has become a pricey commodity, sometimes costing more than Beluga caviar.
A high-end fertility client even spent $100,000 testing sperm from three donors to find the "best" one.
The U.S. dominates the market due to relaxed donor limits, rigorous testing, and the ability to compensate donors, unlike the UK.
Yet, donors don’t reap the benefits, earning just $50-$150 per vial while banks sell them for thousands.
DNA-tracking services and changing laws are also scaring off potential donors, creating a shortage.
New startups, like Legacy and The Seed Scout, are shaking things up, offering verified, elite donor options and direct donor-recipient connections.
📌 This artist was killing piglets in the name of art
Three little pigs got a second chance at life after a shocking Danish art exhibit took a wild turn.
Artist Marco Evaristti’s installation, meant to highlight factory farming cruelty, involved trapping three piglets and leaving them to starve.
But a 10-year-old girl begged her father, Caspar Steffensen, to save them. Teaming up with animal rights activists, Steffensen helped steal the piglets, now named Simon, Lucia, and Benjamin, and take them to safety.
Evaristti, initially upset, later admitted the pigs were better off.
The exhibit sparked outrage, with critics condemning the planned starvation of living beings, despite the message it aimed to convey.
📌 Oh, and I have found you the hottest hangout spot in America
Kayla Sibilia grew up tending the fire for her family’s sauna, witnessing its power as a space for raw, unfiltered connection.
Years later, she founded Altær, a community sauna in Rhode Island, embracing that same ethos, not just about bathing but about belonging.
Across the U.S., small, social saunas are popping up, reviving an ancient tradition of communal sweating, storytelling, and human connection.
Unlike large, commercial bathhouses, these saunas foster intimacy, stripping away societal labels, no politics, no fashion, no status, just warmth and conversation. From artist collaborations at Big Towel Spa to Queer and BIPOC nights at 612 Sauna Cooperative, inclusivity is key.
More than a trend, it’s a third place: a refuge from screens, stress, and solitude. Step inside, sweat it out, and maybe, just maybe, make a friend.
📌
BTW, dysentery outbreak in this US state has sickened atleast 40 people
Dysentery cases are surging in Oregon, especially in Portland, with 40 cases reported in January alone. In 2024, Multnomah County saw 158 cases, many among people who hadn’t traveled abroad, meaning the disease is spreading locally.
Health officials suspect the real numbers are even higher, particularly among the homeless population, where poor access to hygiene is a major risk factor.
The disease, caused by Shigella bacteria, spreads through contaminated surfaces and can lead to severe diarrhea, fever, and stomach pain. While antibiotics are the usual treatment, the strains in Multnomah County are proving resistant.
📌 Now, some exciting news! The next James Bond movie is coming (maybe)!!
Could Christopher Nolan be the next James Bond director?
Reports suggest Amazon wants him at the helm after acquiring the iconic franchise.
Amazon may have already reached out with a "strong mutual desire" to make it happen. Social media is buzzing with speculation that Nolan could even get full creative control and a blank check to bring his vision to life.
Nolan has long admired Bond, admitting its influence on his films. He once called directing a Bond movie an “amazing privilege,” but only if he had full creative freedom. Talks between him and MGM have happened before but never materialized due to creative differences.
📌 Lastly, you gotta try this champagne
If you’re looking for a champagne worthy of a Hollywood celebration, look no further than Champagne Lallier R.019.
This was the exclusive champagne at the 97th Academy Awards, sipped by stars like Kieran Culkin and Mikey Madison at the Oscars and the glamorous Governors Ball.
Crafted in the prestigious Grand Cru village of Aÿ, Lallier’s Brut R.019 blends the finest 2019-harvested grapes, resulting in a champagne that’s pure, fresh, and elegantly intense.
Overseen by cellar master Dominique Demarville (formerly of Veuve Clicquot), this expression pairs perfectly with gourmet bites or a simple toast to success.
