Hi. Today, we’re shifting gears to something meaningful - how you can make a difference for those affected by the LA wildfires.
From community efforts to heartwarming stories of support, we’ve got everything you need to know to lend a helping hand.
Now, let’s get started…
What’s happening, and how can you help?
Let’s talk about the biggest fire making headlines - the Palisades Fire. It’s been dubbed one of the most destructive natural disasters in Los Angeles history. Over 23,000 acres have burned, and as of now, firefighters have managed to contain only 11% of it. The scope of this fire is staggering, and the battle to contain it is far from over.
Then there’s the Eaton Fire, which has already scorched over 14,000 acres. This one is slightly more under control at 27% containment, but it’s still causing significant destruction. Lastly, the Hurst Fire, though smaller at 700 acres, is 89% contained.
There’s a bit of good news, too - five other fires, including the Woodley, Sunset, and Kenneth fires, have been fully contained. But the damage they left behind is heartbreaking.
The human toll
The numbers are sobering. At least 24 fire-related deaths are being investigated by the Los Angeles County medical examiner. Officials fear the death toll could rise in the coming days. Many people have been injured, some critically, and entire neighborhoods have been reduced to ashes.
Over 12,000 structures have been destroyed across the Palisades and Eaton fires alone.
How you can help
The American Red Cross has been a lifeline for those impacted by the wildfires. Hundreds of volunteers have been deployed to Los Angeles to help evacuees with immediate needs.
Here’s what they’re doing:
Four shelters are already operational, with more being set up as needed.
They’re providing meals, medical care, and places for people to shower and sleep.
Beyond the basics, they’re helping families navigate this emotionally and physically challenging time.
Joanne Nowlin, the regional executive director of the Red Cross in Los Angeles, described the situation as “significant,” adding, “It’s not just the fire—you’ve got wind damage, power outages, trees falling, and deteriorating air quality. This is impacting thousands and thousands of folks in Los Angeles.”
If you’re looking to make a difference, consider donating to the Red Cross or volunteering your time. Every little bit helps, whether it’s funding meals, providing blankets, or supporting displaced families as they rebuild their lives.
Staying resilient
The people of Southern California have faced fires before, but this season feels particularly overwhelming. Yet amidst the destruction, stories of courage and resilience are emerging. From firefighters working round-the-clock to neighbors helping each other protect homes with garden hoses, it’s clear that the human spirit is unshakeable.
This is a difficult time for many, but together, with support and solidarity, Southern California will recover.
If you’re in a position to help, now is the time. Donate, volunteer, or simply spread the word about the resources available to those in need. It’s not just about fighting fires - it’s about helping people rebuild their lives, one step at a time.
Let’s keep Southern California in our thoughts and do what we can to support the incredible people on the front lines and the communities they’re fighting for.
So, that’s it for today. Keep praying
