Happy Wednesday, folks! Here’s a twist to shake up your midweek: a doctor’s bizarre attempt to kill his wife over a selfie!
I know, it sounds like something straight out of a thriller, but unfortunately, it's real.
Grab your coffee and get ready for a shocking tale that’s got us all questioning how far some people will go to control something as simple as a photo.
📌 Would you kill someone for a selfie? This doctor almost did
Dr. Gerhardt Konig, a 46-year-old anesthesiologist from Maui, has been charged with attempting to murder his wife, Arielle Konig, a nuclear engineer.
The couple was vacationing in Oahu when the alleged attack occurred at the Pali Lookout, a popular viewpoint.
Authorities claim Dr. Konig became enraged when his wife refused to take a picture with him, leading him to push her off the trail and bash her in the head with a rock. He then reportedly punched her multiple times and even tried to attack her with syringes.
Arielle suffered serious head and facial injuries and was rushed to the hospital. Dr. Konig was arrested after a brief foot chase near Pali Highway.
The incident prompted the closure of the lookout for the day, and Maui Health, where Dr. Konig worked, has suspended him pending investigation. Authorities continue to investigate the case.
📌 Now, the chilling story of a stalker
Ilia K., a 24-year-old Bulgarian national, is on trial in Frankfurt for charges of rape and bodily harm against his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend, Döndü G.
The incident occurred on June 25, 2023, when Ilia lured Döndü to a park and demanded that she swear on the Koran that she hadn't cheated on him.
Döndü, who was on her period and unable to touch the Koran according to Islamic teachings, refused.
Ilia allegedly responded by threatening her life, beating her, and then dragging her into a bush, where he raped her.
He also reportedly threatened to film the assault and share the footage.
The couple had broken up in 2023 after Ilia was convicted of assaulting her with a baseball bat, for which he received a ten-month probation. Despite this, he continued to stalk and harass her.
Ilia's lawyer has indicated he will remain silent throughout the trial, and shocking requests, like asking the judge to kiss and hug his mother, have been made. The next hearing is set for March 31, and Döndü may be forced to confront her alleged attacker in court.
📌 BTW, you will now need an ID to buy a dildo. Not kidding
A new bill in Texas, SB 3003, aims to require online sellers of "obscene devices" like dildos to verify buyers' ages with photo IDs.
Introduced by Senator Angela Paxton, the bill would make it a criminal offense for retailers to sell such items without age verification. This bill echoes past attempts to restrict access to sex toys, bringing back memories of the state’s old “six dildo” law, which criminalized owning multiple sex toys.
Hallie Lieberman, a sex toy historian, fears this bill could push sellers to revert to deceptive marketing, like claiming vibrators are for "back massage."
Such age verification laws, already common for adult sites, are criticized for being invasive and ineffective. They risk exposing personal information and could push consumers toward less safe, lower-quality products.
Lieberman also warns that these laws could endanger vulnerable groups, such as transgender individuals, whose purchases could be tracked by a hostile government. Texas lawmakers have repeatedly tried to limit access to sex toys, with other bills pushing for more restrictive measures.
If passed, this bill could fine online retailers up to $5,000 per violation and turn them into criminals for not verifying age.
📌 Oh, and this pilot forgot his passport, and then this happened
A United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai turned back after it was discovered that one of the pilots had forgotten his passport.
Flight UA 198, carrying 257 passengers and 13 crew members, took off from LAX on March 22. However, two hours into the flight, the plane was diverted to San Francisco, where it landed at 5 p.m. to arrange for a new crew.
The flight finally departed with the new crew around 9 p.m., arriving in Shanghai six hours late.
The pilot admitted his mistake over the intercom, and passengers like Yang Shuhan received meal vouchers and compensation. Though some passengers were frustrated by the delay, they appreciated the pilot's honesty.
