Good morning,
It’s Monday.
Which means you’ve probably already argued with your alarm clock, made peace with caffeine, and wondered if you really need that 10 AM Zoom.
But before the week steamrolls in, here’s a wild tale to remind you: no matter how weird your family is, it could be weirder.
📌 Is this a made-up story?
No. This actually happened.
In China, a concerned father, Mr. Feng, got fed up watching his 23-year-old son waste away his days glued to online video games. The son, unemployed and fully immersed in the gaming world, refused to do much else.
So, Mr. Feng did what any extremely online boomer dad with too much time and WiFi might do…
He hired virtual assassins to stalk his son in the games he played and eliminate his avatar. Repeatedly.
Just think logging in to your favorite RPG, gearing up to fight a dragon, and then…bam! Three mystery players gang up and take you down.
Every. Single. Time.
Eventually, the son started questioning this strange vendetta and asked one of the players why he was being targeted.
That’s when the digital cat was out of the pixelated bag.
📌 But wait… is it really THAT ridiculous?
Gaming addiction (or obsession, depending on where you stand) is real. But so is the fear parents have of “losing” their kids to screens, fantasy worlds, and dopamine-driven platforms.
Mr. Feng thought this strategy would scare his son out of gaming altogether. Instead, it probably just gave him a great story for a Reddit thread.
Psychologist and gambling addiction expert Prof. Mark Griffiths weighed in:
“Most excessive game playing is a symptom of an underlying problem... It’s not the time you spend doing something, it’s the impact it has on your life.”
Mic. Dropped!!!
You could game 12 hours a day, and if you’re happy, healthy, and not hurting anyone, maybe it’s not the apocalypse.
📌 So, did it work?
The son did eventually stop gaming as obsessively. But not because of the pixelated ambush. He and his father had an actual conversation and reconciled.
Which begs the question: couldn’t this whole plot twist have been avoided with… talking?
World of Warcraft expert Olivia Grace added her own gamer’s wisdom:
“Being killed by someone happens all the time… people are just like that online.”
Brutal. But fair.
